Dystopian visions and queer fantasy are cornerstones of Hilda’s artistic practice. They draw inspiration from surreal stories where the weirdos and punks get to do what they want–where queers never die and can be bold without recrimination. As a queer, intersectional, feminist artist Hilda cares deeply about equitable collaborative process.

Their narrative short film, “Be Right Back,” (2016) focused on the erotic and comedic potential in “women’s work,” as a shopkeeper blurs the understanding of customer satisfaction. It screened at over fifteen festivals domestically and abroad.

Hilda appeared as Joanna in “Fremont,” an acclaimed narrative feature directed by Babak Jalali which garnered 6 award wins and 12 nominations. Hilda was honored to take part in this thoughtful film exploring identity, longing, and love in diasporic Afghan communities.

Hilda brings wry humor, optimism, and emotional gravity to the role of Joanna. Her vulnerable performance of 70s folk song “Diamond Day” by Vashti Bunyan is a pivotal moment in the narrative arc.
